Description and Service Details

Description (Service)

Programs include:

Y-Mind

A free program intended for youth aged 13-29 who experience mild to moderate anxiety, stress, and low mood

  • learn techniques to help you to effectively cope with stress and anxiety
  • best suited to those for whom anxiety is the primary concern
  • curriculum is based on Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), and includes education about mindfulness, mindfulness techniques and self-compassion
  • participants are encouraged to self-select to be part of the program, independent of caregivers or other external support(s)
  • a diagnosis or referral is not necessary in order to participate
  • occurs weekly, for 7 weeks, and each session is 90-120 minutes long (offered in-person and virtually)
  • includes a free gym membership at the YMCA Oakville to promote the use of physical fitness for mental wellbeing

Mental Health First Aid

The program equips participants to:

  • recognize signs, symptoms, and risk factors of mental health issues
  • reduce stigma and social distance from those with mental health challenges
  • build confidence in supporting someone in a mental health crisis
  • identify professional and self-help resources for support
  • improve their own mental wellness
