Working to make Oakville a living city with enhanced natural diversity, stronger connections between natural areas, and healthier green spaces
- reconnecting people to nature
- protecting local water quality
- increasing climate resiliency
- increasing natural habitat & tree cover
- improving local biodiversity
Programs Include:
GreenRoots
- empowers educators, parents and community leaders to teach environmental literacy, using our suite of connected in-class and outdoor learning activities
- education programs, free downloadable resources, virtual & in person events (dependent on Covid)
Green Connections
- programs for adults 55 plus (Both in-person and Zoom events available)
- aims to reduce social isolation and build community togetherness among older residents, through a program of fun, nature-themed events and activities
Depave Paradise
- a project of Green Communities Canada and local partners like Oakvillegreen, in communities across Canada
Pollinator Gardens
- working with community volunteers and partners, creates and maintains pollinator gardens at various public locations throughout Oakville
- increases native habitat, biodiversity and provides educational opportunities
Treeplanting
- a fun way to get outdoors for families and individuals of all ages
Invasive Species
- remove hundreds of bags of invasive plants, every year, helping to improve urban forest ecosystems and increase local biodiversity
Community Education
- programs aim to bring together diverse audiences, to stimulate new ideas and inspire local action
Native Plant Sale
- annual sale runs Mar-Apr, with pickup in early May
- offer a variety of native trees, shrubs, and garden kits
