The OHS is a member society of the Ontario Horticultural Association, and encourages interest in gardening and related environmental issues by providing education and fellowship.

Elections Elections are held at the Annual General Meeting that is scheduled on the second Monday in December. Most positions have a term of two years, with the exception of Past-President (1 year).

Description and Service Details

Description (Service)

The Society aims to further the knowledge of horticulture by stimulating an interest in gardening in our community, and has been encouraging the beautification of both public and private properties since 1957. 

Partnering with Oakville’s conservation groups, the Society also seeks to encourage and protect plant diversity in our community’s forests and wetland areas.

Usual events include:

  • Annual Garden Tour in Oakville - normally in mid-June
  • Annual Plant Sale, normally in May. 
  • Guest speakers on various topics at our monthly meetings 
  • Judged flower / photography displays at monthly meetings
  • Maintenance of community gardening projects
  • Junior Garden Program promotes hands-on experience of gardening by children (and their parents) who grow a variety of vegetables in individual family plots in a community garden.
Hours
  • Meetings held at 7:30 pm on the second Mon of each month from Sep-Jun
  • The Junior Garden Program runs May-late Septempber, where participants meet on Tuesday evenings at Oakville Municipal Greenhouse, 1100 Cornwall Road, Oakville.
