Description (Service)

A Twelve Step mutual support group resource with member facilitated meetings for adults and teens affected by a relative or friend's addiction or misuse of alcohol. Al-Anon, which includes Alateen for teenagers, is a separate entity from Alcoholics Anonymous (AA).

  • non-professional, self-supporting, spiritually based, apolitical
  • members share as peers how they apply the Al-Anon/Alateen program to their lives to solve common problems
  • based on the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions adapted from AA

Alateen:

  • part of the Al-Anon Fellowship designed for younger relatives and friends, up to age 18, of alcoholics
  • follows the same Twelve Steps, Twelve Traditions, and principles as Al-Anon
  • members conduct their own meetings with the guidance of a certified adult Al-Anon member who is the Alateen Group Sponsor
  • members focus on sharing and learning effective ways to cope with their common problems and challenges as a result of being affected by someone's drinking
