Description and Service Details

Description (Service)

Provides consultation services including prenatal genetics, cancer genetics, and general genetics * also provides education to the community and medical professionals * genetics team comprised of geneticists, genetic counsellors and support staff


Prenatal Genetics

  • includes genetic counselling and testing for a variety of conditions which can be found for a developing baby during a pregnancy * this can include inherited and non-inherited conditions
  • Enhanced First Trimester Screening (eFTS)
  • Enhanced First Trimester Screening for Twin Pregancies (eFTS-Twins)

General Genetics Clinic

  • sees people of all ages to assess any medical condition that has an underlying genetic cause
  • help educate people about genetic conditions in themselves or in their families
  • genetic testing will be offered when appropriate


Cancer Genetics

  • conduct a formal assessment of cancer risk, counselling and offer genetic testing if appropriate
  • cancer is caused by genetic changes that lead to uncontrolled cell growth
  • the most common inherited cancers include breast, ovarian and colon cancer, although there are other less common cancers that are linked to a genetic predisposition
